Printing press shut, dailies hit

ACHHAM, AUG 18 – Half-a-dozen newspapers, both dailies and weeklies, have halted publication here for an indefinite period due to the lack of a printing press.
Three daily newspapers and three weeklies operating from the district headquarters, Mangalsen, halted their production as the only offset press, Kalbhairav Printing Press, in the district downed shutters. The management at the printing press said it was compelled to shut down its operations as operator Prem Chaudhary was on leave. With another printing press in the district also not functioning for months now, all district-based publications rely on Kalbhairav press to print their newspapers.
“We are forced to close down publication as the only offset press is closed,” said Shivaraj Dhungana, executive editor of Ramaroshan daily.
He said Chaudhary is likely to resume work after a month. “We will resume work after he joins after a month-long home leave,” he added.
